Tennis elbow

Tennis elbow is usually the result the tendon not coping with work it is being asked to do.

It is a condition that most people can self-manage at home by:

  • Reducing activities that cause discomfort temporarily
  • Keeping moving
  • Taking painkillers as needed

Physiotherapy can be useful if your symptoms do not settle with the above.

Steroid injections used to be offered, but evidence now suggests that they are damaging in the long run.

You may be offered a surgical opinion if your symptoms are severe and persistent but this is likely to be for their opinion on alternative causes of the pain as opposed to offering tendon surgery.
